The NHM (National Health Mission) said on Wednesday, There were 48 peoples who had lost their lives in Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and others like Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) out of the 331 cases in Assam this year. The NVBDCP (National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme) held a video conference with the all districts of Assam to review the status of JE and AES, A statement by NHM’s and Health Department said that “The Assam state has currently 331 AES cases and 48 deaths, that includes 24 Non-JE deaths, 148 Non-JE cases and 183 JE cases with 24 JE deaths.”
The video-conference was between Secretary Monalisa Goswami and Health & Family Welfare Commissioner in the presence of Director of NHM Lakshmanan S and the other officials.
Secretary Monalisa Goswami reviewed disease status in the state and instructed all concerned to ensure that all laboratories are functional and replace equipment for testing (Elisa Reader & Washer), wherever needed.
Secretary Monalisa Goswami also directed to ensure the earmarking and availability of JE beds in all hospital & medical colleges of the district to treat the mosquito-borne disease patients, The statement stated.
Secretary Monalisa Goswami directed her entire department officials to monitor closely the activities and follow up on the treatment of JE patients.
The statement said that the supervision & monitoring need to be strengthened & awareness/IEC activities too should be thoroughly done at all the districts and special focus on giving at the tea garden areas in state Assam.
Secretary Monalisa Goswami further instructed all authorities concerned to routinely field visits to ensure that the District Task Force meeting was conducted in close coordination with different departments for the better management of disease JE & AES in the region north-eastern state.
On Tuesday night, the health office said in its every day COVID-19 announcement that two people had passed on because of malaria fever of the 211 cases, while the state Assam has seen 18 dengue cases up until this point.
